Show L Salt Lake Must Shame the UnE American Cities i I rf The attitude assumed toward h bY several localities In Utah the he Citizens CItizens' Military Training camp and the Indifference displayed dis- dis I played by some of the larger cities In the territory represented by this camp make REAL Americans feel ashamed that so many persons with rabbit hearts and selfish souls with petty I views of life and with no appreciation whatever of what the I I word duty yu means means' fan can also call themselves AMERICANS and I hold their heads up Instead of hanging them In shame The great government of the United States offering more liberties more blessings to the citizens of this country than any other government in the world offers has asked the citizens In return to insure the perpetuity of the governments government's power so that it can c'an continue to keep this the land of the free The Tho United States government not wishing yet to force every man to do his military duty has asked all good male citizens citizens citizens citi citi- zens to at least devote some time to the study of the military game and take at least some preliminary lessons In prepared d. d I ness sass It is a very little thing that so good and protecting a government government gov gov- asks of its men It simply asks those able bodied male citizens between the ages of 18 and 45 to give one little month of their vacations to their country A man who Is too selfish to do this ought to have to live in a country where they dont don't ASK but ORDER you up to the firing line The attitude that is all too common In this section of the country Is shown in the following clipping from the Logan Journal Some of the men Interested Interest d In the Military Training camp in Salt Lake were in Logan and vicinity on Sunday and yesterday yesterday yes yes- but they found few people here who wanted to join the organization As a matter of fact the tactics employed employed employed em em- here to get young men Into the army of the United States has left an exceedingly bitter taste in the mouths of many people and they are very shy of all military proposals and military r We would like to ask the editor of the Logan Journal how shy he would be of military proposals and military people if a foreign foe should come to our shores on the Pacific or Atlantic and take our seaports and demoralize the trade of this country We would like to tell him that even Logan nestled nes nes- tied in the hills as it is would not escape if everybody took the view that he seems teems to take and had a bitter taste for military people From Ogden we also get a rebuke for the training camp camp camp- another effort to give the intermountain region a black eye so that American citizens In other parts of the country who have responded nobly to their country's appeal will look upon this country as a land of aliens where patriotism is not known where duty is a word that was left out of our dictionary The Ogden Standard knocking the Citizens' Citizens Training camp campon on August 8 printed an editorial which said Ogden was the first place in the West to claim recognition as being ideally located for an arsenal and we are still in the fight to prove rove that Ogden on the thet t main line of the Union Pacific and Southern Pacific railroads is entitled to a government war plant Our military men would make a serious mistake to place supply depots in Salt Lake where valuable time I if flace war suddenly came would be lost in moving equipment to the great military roads of the United States of which Ogden Is the Junction on point So Ogden has hal shown no interest in the training camp because it thinks that its chance of beating Salt Lake out of a possible munitions plant or army storehouse might be endangered If it the training camp In Salt Lake should prove provo a success That is patriotism for youl you I Denver larger than any five other cities In the intermountain country combined has practically ignored all the pleas of the the government to send men to the tr training ining camp here lere Butte Mont has done little better As a matter of fact it remains for Salt Lake to furnish most of the recruits and do all of ot the recruiting wor work to make malto r rt t 1 v d 1 J d It I this camp a success although the entire intermountain West would be marked with a brand of shame and would be disgraced forever and held in contempt by decent American citizens everywhere else if It this camp had failed If It is a success all the intermountain country will profit by it Who Vho gives Monterey Cal for Instance credit for having 1100 recruits there When you read of or that camp you think of all California of course and you give all California credit for sending men there to do their duty and to learn at least afew a afew afew few valuable lessons that may come In very useful some some time when this country demands of Its men something in return for what it has given them Now we have a little over six hundred men Insured for the camp This is not enough Congress has passed an appropriation bill to c cover cover t ver expenses I for these camps and the army is giving the Salt Lake encampment encampment encampment encamp encamp- ment the nicest treatment of an any so far held in this country The citizen soldiers are to be housed houed in the comfortable new barracks at Fort Douglas having haying convenient shower baths and comfortable iron cots They are to have the best of ot food and there wille will be no no time lost lost lost-in in in camp life Ufe to retard their lessons in military work The government has sent three companies of skilled soldiers here with a band and some of the very best officers in the army have have been been detailed to to give instructions to the rookies at Fort Douglas There certainly should be over men for the camp when It opens next Monday Salt Lakers will have to respond more freely this week to make malte the proper showing If Logan Ogden Denver and Butte want to be listed as un-American un cities rest assured they will get their wish Opposite their names in the war war department will be the marks that will signify signify Found Found Wanting Salt SaIt Lake will have to prove that LOYALTY has not been entirely forgotten in the Intermountain region s Enlist today Call Wasatch 1307 1807 for
