Show MElLEN BIDS LOW LO LOON ON THREE CITY CONTRACTS Parrot Brothers were formally awarded the contract for the Eighth East paving at this mornings morning's session of the city commission although at attorneys attorneys at at- for J. J W. W Mellen informed the commission that the injunction suit decided in favor of the city in the district district district dis dis- dis- dis court would be carried to the su supreme supreme su- su preme court They declared that the contract was void and that any taxpayer could re refuse refuse refuse re- re fuse to pay the paving tax It was rumored that the commission planned to award the contract and then fall fail to order the work done until after the supreme court had decided the case This rumor however was denied by several of the commissioners who said that Parrott Brothers had agreed to put up a bond sufficient to protect the city against loss With the Eighth East contract disposed disposed disposed dis dis- dis- dis posed of the commission proceeded to open the bid on six other paving ex- ex J. J W. W V. V Mellen had bad filed a protest against this action on the same grounds namely that he lie had not had sufficient time to enter a justifiable bid Commissioner Scheid introduced a motion for the postponement of the opening of ot the bids but this was voted down The bids in question Involve paving Thirteenth East between Fifth South and Ninth South Federal Heights Virginia street from Second avenue to Alta AHa street Third West Vest between Sixth South and Eighth South First South between Main and State and State street between First South and Fourth South and First South between Main l and West Vest Temple After the bids had been opened it was determined that Mellen had been low bidder on at least three of the contracts The others were in doubt All AlI bids were referred to the city engineer engineer engineer engi engi- neer for tabulation |
