Show UNIVERSITY GIRLS GIRLS' a. a lORK W F FOR CHARITY ATY Now that the Christmas holidays are approaching the Salt Lake Charity association has appealed to some of ot the University of Utah girls and who are studying economics sociology for aid In doing social work for fol the next i two or three weeks The girls will not have the 1 opportunity of doing settlement i work such as teaching school among i ithe the poor etc but they are to have havethe havethe havethe the experience of the very next best thing in social service taking service taking care of ot needy charity applicants One or two of ot the girls have already already already al al- al- al ready been asked to help in tills this con con- Dr T. B Beatty and his associates In the charity service of ot associates In the charity service of ot Salt Lake have welcomed all of ot the I girls to Join In the work The work consists of ot investigating the charity applications handed dally daily I into the offices The directors of ot the I association have found that quite often of ot otten ten tea a man goes from one charity organization organization or to another because he I knows that somebody will help himon him himon on account of a hard luck story story- This has been the case so often orten in the past that the association has decided to check on all applications and investigate the need of charity in each On one of ot these recent investigations in in- the w workers found a aman aman aman man who lost his lila Job about a year ago on account of illness When ho he recovered he merely kept kepton on living on charities During his illness he found that people were willing to help him Now his self respect Is so calloused that he keeps on begging from rota various He has received help in the past year from his church from the Elks the Salvation Army the tIle Volunteers Volunteers Volunteers Volun Volun- of America and the charity association Efforts are now being made to procure work for the man This Is s the sort of work that the I university girls are asked to do if they care to The association does not want to limit the work to application application cation cases The workers are asked to investigate into poverty cases where the families are too proud to ask for aid and assistance They The are to determine whether or not the case is one that tho county should deal or whether it needs private attention Thus all cases of charity among taxpayers are turned Lamed over over to to the county count to be taken care of And gases cases of transient po poor r worthy of ot assistance are taken care of by the association in connection with cases of tax non-tax payers Until recently the organization was in charge of W W.
