I Racing Rac Auto Turns Turtle Turfie Kills Driver and Assistant B By B Un United ted Press FRESNO Cal Oct 2 While While tearing along at a terrific rate of speed at the Fresno fair this afternoon a powerful Duryea Duryea car an entry in the mile automobile bile race suddenly careened left the track mounted a ugh high embankment crashed into a fence instantly killed Dan E. E Francis the driver and injured Frank Tuttle h his hs s mec so badly that he died two hours later in a hospital The race was for prizes aggregating The car was demolished and ancl Francis and Tuttle crushed d beneath the tho wreckage Because of the death the of two men in the car the exact cause of the tho accident may never be kno known knon n but i it is is believed d that something went wrong with the steering gear The car was rounding the southwest turn of the track when it swerved A cry of horror arose roso from the thousands thousands' in the grand st stand nd and along the course and before and before it died out the car had Crashed from the track in its its' its death death dealing journey The wreckage was quickly lifted aside asid Francis was dead his body t crushed still alive b but t it Was s son seen on that his his' injuries would probably res result lt fatally He was rushed to a hospital where he ho die died dieU J without regaining consciousness
