J m The city commissioners the Oregon Short Line people people and residents of the west side got together gether on the viaduct proposition i toda today in iii a businesslike manner and settled the dispute in a way r J I that seemed to bring general satisfaction f There was a proposition to force the railroad company to i 1 build a viaduct at Third North th street that would cost ost quarter one-quarter I i J of of a million dollars With money conditions as tight as they i I are with railroad earnings sh showing wing a decrease d crease everywhere it vis felt that this would work t a hardship that would amount almost to confiscation tion at this time On the other hand it was figured that the best interests of the people could be served by having the railroad enlarge and J improve the present North Temple street viaduct to meet all the requirements of travel and satisfy the taxpayers On this basis 1 the Third North street proposition was waived for the present and the company will spend considerable money making the I North Temple street viaduct ready for increased traffic Thus a problem that has been before the public for a long time has bee n disposed of with evident satisfaction all around It is a sign of better conditions when public officials taxpayers I and nd representatives of big corporations can get together on matters mat mat- of importance to all and talk business like this in a a mat mat-I fair minded way |
