Show ST VANILLA II AMERICAN Product Used in Extract Sold by the Donnell Company Company Com Corn pany the Superior of Any Other H How w many of the thousands of of Salt Lakers who use extract of vanilla every day dab in n cakes ice cie m and for other flavoring purposes know how how- howit it is made I How many know that hat just as good a avanilla avanilla avanilla vanilla bean beau is raised raised- ih in lb the United States as as s is raised anywhere in the world f How many know that an ag ag- ag in lug ing of of-at of a least three years is necessary from the time that tl the e bean is crushed until it is ready to put on the market as asa asa a true extract of the bean and that anything put out from any factory I under three years of aging is s scarcely fi fit t for use use usel It is a fact nevertheless that extracts ex ex- tracts of vanilla like whisky improve with age and that the longer they are kept in in the casks or vats in which they ar are placed and allowed to remain these there the better Detter they become It is a slow process but one that pays and oue cue that nat insures a pure extract of the bean I There is is a quicker and much easier process by which through the use of it it- itis is possible to put an alleged al al- al eged extract of vanilla on the market market mar mar- ket in in a few days after after- the bean is ground But this is not vanilla it is simply an imitation For years Mexico was the principal market from which the thc manufacturers of the extract in the in United States secured secured se so- cured th their ir sy supply ply but at least two States in in the tho Upion Union are now raising as good a bean as is raised in Mexico These States are Colorado and New Mexico In Colorado the beans arenow are arenow arenow now raised extensively in Otero and Bent counties in in New Mexico they are are raised in Bernalillo Santa Fe Fo aud and Quay Coun counties ties The beans raised in t these ese two States are arc the equal of f any raised in Old Mexico and all that can be raised is purchased by one one firm in St. St Louis What other beans are arc n needed eded for the vast trade are purchased from the best districts of central and southern Mex Mex- ice ico ico The vanilla bean raised in South America is not nearly neary so good as that raised in the two States and in Old J Mexico co nor does it comm command nd so high a price As s soon as the thc beans are arc gathered they are thrashed out In the tho two States this is done by machinery but butin in in Mexico the old method of hand- hand I thrashing is still in vo vogue ue The beans I are arc then put in in sacks and are ready for shipment to the factory At tho the factory they are crushed by roll rollers rs the oil is taken from the bean and placed in vats or casks At this time there is is little taste to the oil No chemicals however are needed if the oil is properly cared caled for to make of it a pure extract of vanilla all that it wants is simple agin aging This is a slow sow process but the only one that insures a pure extract This is the process that is gone through by the Donnell Manufacturing company of St. St Louis Every bottle that it puts on the market has gone through at least three years of aging before bein being put into the bottle Every b bottlo that is is offered for sale has the tho food stamp of the pure Government on OJ oi it The company was practically the only one in the country that did not have to change its formula on any of the thc goods which it manufactured on Qa the passage of the pure food law b by bJ Con Congress ress a year ago |
