U Eldredge Jr and Leroy Armstrong Armstron made good this amount so the club and Mrs Lovey will be bo protected Armstro Armstrong has been one ODe of the Press clubs club's most active members and has taken a big part in local politics He is what is commonly called a good mixer and of late has been spending spendin lots of money As he was not earning much his acquaintances tC wondered how he was doin doing it Burl was elected president of the Press club about a year a ago o and it is is all alleged ged that while in that office he be bean began began be be- gan an taking money that did not belon belong I to him hint It Itis is also said that he so so- his election as treasurer secretary of the club later to protect prote t himself But he lie came ame under suspicion lately and an auditing committee began check check- in big ing him up and found the amount of the shortage A demand was made upon Armstrong for a settlement and he ho made many promises to make good the amount but kept breaking them Finally when it was put up cold to him that the bonding company would be asked to reimburse the club Armstrong Armstrong Armstrong Arm Arm- strong got ot his political friends and his father together and the money was raised As the bond would not entirely protect pro pro- Mrs Lovey and the club the members members mem mem- bers thou thought ht best to give ive Burl time to get g-et the money and he lie was allowed until Saturday afternoon to produce it which he lie did Burl won some local f fame me by writing The Bun Bungle le presented at the Salt Lake theater by the Press club He had charge of that show and han han- dIed the money Now Burl says that the club had never never settled w with th him for the work he did then and that as the question was unsettled he was not sure how much of the money he lie handled han han- died really belonged to him When the sad plight of Cartoonist Loveys Lovey's mother was learned by friends of her dead son they got ot together his best drawings in book form and so 50 subscriptions to that book to raise a fund with which to help support support sup sup- port the aged woman who is la helpless and has no other means of support I Armstrong Armstron had charge of that fund and was supposed to give gie her weekly checks Finally when assistance ceased friends of Mrs Irs Lovey began asking the Press Pres club why she did not get her checks any more While Burl was making making mak mak- ing himself a good fellow the feeble old woman was actually in in need of common common cornmon com corn mon necessities of life These inquiries helped bring about an investigation which showed up the embezzlement Parson Simpkin has been elected to succeed Armstrong Armstron WHY ARMSTRONG DID NOT KEEP ASSAY JOB Burl Armstrong was appointed temporary temporary temporary tempo tempo- clerk In the United States assay office of ot- fice by J.
