Show The Sandman Story FOR TONIGHT How the Guinea Hens Gained Respect Respect Part Part I It was four days since the Guinea H Hens ns had been placed in the barnyard barnard and the animals were still puzzling over their queer looks Who ever heard of hens with faces like those said old Brown Brown Hen So white and those fiery red red ears I think they look funny Mrs White Hen picking up worms near by instantly ruffled her feathers And pray what right have you to call red and white silly colors asked she I wish you to understand that our family have taken prizes for a good many generations Goodness me I was not talking about you Brown lien Hen replied We were Just looking at those new hens with their skinny necks and gray and black feathers Of course It Lt is none of my business but I would like to know where they came from said old Yellow Hen who had Just just Joined the group and dearly loved to gossip Just then Red Rooster came strutting strutting strutting strut strut- ting across the yard as fast as his dignity would allow I have s some me news for you he said pausing for fOT breath All the hens gathered around him their eyes bright ht with wonder for when Red Rooster spoke he usually had something very Important to tell them There is a circus down the road he said and I heard the farmers farmer's boy say that he saw things down there and one was a clown with a white face painted with red in places He wore on his head a funny black blackcap blackcap cap which bobbed up and down and he had big black rings around his eyes yes Oh those new hens look j just st like that broke in old Yellow Hen Now we know what they are They are clowns and camo came from the circus Perhaps the farmer brought them here bere to amuse us said sald Mrs White Hen That is Just what I thought said Red Rooster and I hurried right lover over as soon as I heard about the circus to tell you Mrs Brown Hen clucked to her young chicks Come here and mind you listen to what I tell you she said sald Do not go near those new hens II They will be telling you silly things I am sure for they belong to a circus L Land and besides I do not want you to learn to squaw as they do They better go back where they they- came from said old Yellow Hen lien for no hen In this barnyard will have anything to do with them Continued tomorrow |
