Bransford, In answer to certain attacks mads upon him ia the columns of the Herald Rcpublicaa on August 4 last, yesterday -filed suit against tha Herald RepuWiesn Publish-ins; Publish-ins; company, a eorporatioa, E.H. Cal-lister, Cal-lister, Janes H. Aadsrsoa, George E. Hals aad Arthur J. Brows for "falsa, malicious and defamatory libel" and asking; damages ia tha sum sf 450,000. According to tha complaint Clad in ths ease, tha . defendants are charged with having printed a certain editorial opinion effecting the honesty, honor snd integrity of the mayor, imputing to him certain connections with o called "interests" that are supposed" to maintain main-tain the stockade oa the west side. The article further states that he either directly di-rectly or indirectly receives and, accepts ac-cepts tribute from women who lire and parade their -shame ia that section. In his answer. Article 7, in conclusion,, says: "Plaintiff further avers that by reason of ssid false, malicious and defamatory libel plaintiff has been brought into public disrepute, infsmy and disgrace and greatly injured in nis good name, fame and credit to hie damage in the sum of 30.0O0. "Wherefore plaintiff demands judgment judg-ment against the said dsfendsnts for the sum of 130,000 damages aad costs of suit." |
