David Ostler, 5$ year old, living at 461 West Fifts Nortk street, waa almost instantly killed by aa ' Oregoa Short Lin freight traia near the North Temple Tem-ple street viaduct shortly after 0 o'cloclu, last light. Ostler, who was employed as janitor of th Oregon Short Line freijrht depot, was oa his way ham with hi anas filled with packages of groceries. A freight train atruek him from behind.! throwing him to the trark and cutting off both bis legs, near the body. The engine and nine ear passed over him. His death followed withia a few mis-utea. mis-utea. ' There were no witneases of the accident, acci-dent, but it is thought that Ostler failed lo hear the approaching train, or believed be-lieved he was on a track other than the one on which the train was approaching. approach-ing. Acting Coroner Harry 8. Harper w notified of the accident and ordered that th body be taken to the undertaking establishment of O'Donnell it t.'o. - iit. Ostler is survived by a widow and a family of grown children. He had bees employed by (he Short Line railroad company for many veara. .Acting Coroner Harry B. Harper went over the known facts ia the matter of Ostler' death with County Attorney I. E. Willey Una afternoon, the latter official of-ficial believing that an inquest might be desirable to 6x the blame, if poaible. for Ostler's death. No decision will be resched in the matter, however, until late this afternoon. . - |
