What i looked upon by tba delegate to the nineteenth anaaal convention of the Western Federation of Miners as tha most important move since tha opening of the aeasioa waa mad this morning by Delegates John Viekera of Butte N'o. I, who introduced a resulutioa providing pro-viding that the Westers Federation of Miners- apply for admiasion into the United Mine Workers of America and surrender their charter to tha latter body, with a further provision that a committee of five be selected by this convention to meet the executive board of tha mine workers for the purpose of drafting a constitution to govara both bodice. ' Action on the resolution waa deferred until the arrival of two delegate from tha United Mine Workers of America, who ara expected to attend tba eon vent ion. When the local anions of tha Western West-ern Federation of Itinera voted by a referendum vote to affiliate with tha American Federation of Labor it is claimed bv tha delegate that such a step waa taken in tha underatanding that a cloeer relation would axiat there bv between the federation and tha united mine workers. 8everal delegates dele-gates ure-ed that the cost of at present maintaining these- bodice would be rut in half. It is suggested that the West-ern West-ern Federation of Miners will become under the proposed amalgamation the metal mining district of tha United Mine Workers of America. |
