Show MY LIFE IS " NEARLY SPENT. SAYS CARDINAL (By International News Service.) BALTIMORE, Md.. July 19. "I shall be 79 years old next Wednesday, ' ' said Cardinal Oibbons as he sat in his stndy today. And then he added in a gentle voiee, "I do not think I will live much longer. Xy life is nearly spent." The cardinal was speaking to a visitor, vis-itor, who expressed turprise. "I will soon be an octogenarian," said the cardinal smilingly, "and na ture must take its course. Almighty Hod has blessed me with a long life and 1 am ready to answer whenever he eees lit to call me to render an account ac-count of my stewardship." Ths cardinal looked out toward the green trees of North Charles street and over the c . t v which he loves. "I think that it will not bs long now," he said slowly, and there was no sorrow in his voiee just resignation, resigna-tion, "and when the call comes 1 think it will be a sudden one. We should all be ready for the call, because we don 't know how soon or suddenly it may come." The visitor asked the cardinal If he was not in good health. "Yes," answered the cardinal. "I still feel strong and capable of performing per-forming several mora year of labor, but I ih nk I will soon pass away. Perhaps I might liv ten years longer we are never sore. "I still feel young," he said, with a smile. "Yon know it is our soul that makes us young or old. If our soul he young, though our body be as old as Methuselah, we are young in- "My health has been good, considering consid-ering the heat. I ehall go on a little vacation." |
