Show WOMAN IS WITNESS IN HAMMOND CASE UucMe Walker, a woman detective brought to the city for the purpose of Investigating rooming house rondltons here, waa the only witness examined today to-day In the trial of W. B. Hammond, proprietor pro-prietor of the Tremont hotel, on a charge of attempted pandering. Tne woman Is the complaining witness in the case. The witness testified that Hammond endeavored to Induce her to become an Inmate of his houae for immoral purposes, pur-poses, offering her the Inducement of large earnings. She said that she went to the houae with Haxel Klder, also a detective, de-tective, under Instructions from Police Inspector C. A. Carlson, to Investigate charges that liquor was sold Illegally. She aald that she was given J for expense ex-pense money hy Inspector Carlson and that Detective Hugh u Qlenn paid each of them $2 a day for their work. The cross examination of the witness wiu probably be completed this afternoon. |
