The first protest against alien land legislation legis-lation from the Chinese in California reached the legislature last night from the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent associations, otherwise known aa the Chinese Six companies. It is ia part aa follows: "The Chinese now in California are here by virtne of treaties that guarantee guar-antee them the common rights of man, aa defined in the bill of rights of your state constitution We have promoted, and desired to promote wider and more abundant trade between this state and China. We have participated in the movement that has eansed China to imitate tbe example of your country by the adoption of a republican form of government. We believe that the great reform in our government will increase the consuming and commercial capacity of the Chinese people, and vastly in. crease their trade with the western na- t ions.
