Show DULUTH SKIER SETS RECORD IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich., Feb. 22 (UP) Bob Roecker of Duluth, Minn, aet what ia believed to be a new national amateur ski Jumping Jump-ing record when he leaped 287 feet off the new Pine Mountain bill jump yesterday. On an attempt to better his new mark, Roecker aailed 270 feet, but be couldn't hold hi feet when he landed and hla effort waa disallowed. A crowd of 18.000 surrounded the new slide, highest artificial ski jump In the world. ' Utah'a Alf Engen, now representing repre-senting Sun Valley, jumped 287 feet at Ecker hill, near Salt Lake City, in 1932, when he waa a professional, pro-fessional, and he went 291 feet in practice, also at Ecker hill. Hal-vor Hal-vor Halstad Is credited with a leap of 202, when he also wa a professional, at Big Pints. |
