Show Back to School Is P.-T.A. Motif By EDITH Ml DUETT HINES As the year advances, P.-T. A. activities take on a definitely more active atmosphere with parents "going "go-ing back to school" for a night or an afternoon, and with many Important Im-portant features of the work being tressed at the meetings. Oarfleld Inaugurating th season's activities activi-ties of the Garfield P.-T. A, The Place of the Home In the Community" Com-munity" will be the theme at the opening meeting on Monday at I p. m. at the school. The pupils, under tha direction of Miss Jstna Welsh, will present the program. National education week and safaty hints wil be stressed. Refreshments Re-freshments will be served following the meeting and all patrons axe Invited. Jefferson Mrs. Joseph Jenkins, vice president presi-dent of Jefferson P.-T. A, whs haa moved away from the district, was honored recently at a waffle party given In connection with the regular officers meeting at the home of Mrs. Lawrence H. Heath, president Mrs. Heath was assisted In serving by Mrs. Roy Hartnett and Mrs. Earl Paulson. A dance was planned for December Decem-ber to be given In the school, end plana were formulated for aa educational edu-cational class for mothers to commence com-mence In January. Dan Baker, principal, welcomed parents to tea and program given recently in recognition of national education week and the centennial of the kindergarten. The program was given by the kindergarten children chil-dren under direction of Miss Ctari-be! Ctari-be! Petri. Mrs Ralph Bowyer and Mrs Frank J. King, hospitality chairman, directed di-rected the parents to the different rooms during the visiting hours. At ths conclusion of the program, punch was poured by Mrs. Daa Baker, Ba-ker, Miss Hasel George, treasurer; Mrs. V. C. Kdmsn. secretary, end Mrs. Edwin E. Erlckson, adult education edu-cation chairman. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Roy Hartnett historian and chairman of tha refreshment re-freshment committee, assisted by Mrs. Fred Cole, membership chairman; chair-man; Mrs. William J. King, room mother chairman; Mrs. Edward Bimpson, magazine chairman; Mrs, Fred Jones and Mrs. Ross Mc-Quivey, Mc-Quivey, student aid chairmen; Mrs. Richard Morrison, publications chairman, and Mrs. Lester Jlecny, safety chairman. Washing tea Parents of the children at the Washington school enjoyed aa art lesson directed by George Dibble at the "back to school night" conducted Friday at 7:10 p. m. at the school. -Make Art Enjoyable" Is the chief aim the parents were told. A safety talk was given by Mrs. Lester Pugs-ley Pugs-ley and choral selections were given by the fourth and sixth grades and the P.-T. A. WhitUrr Officers of the Wbittier P.-T. A. were entertained st a luncheon on Monday by Mrs. H. B. Brooks, vice president, in her home at 1472 Fifth East street. The monthly executive meeting followed, when office problems were discussed.
