Show FIESTA CURTAIN : FALLS SATURDAY: The 1937 Covered Wagon Days ; curtain will ring down Saturday ; evening, following seven interesting episodes planned for the day, des- '. ignated as "Pioneering Utah." On that day, Utahns will com- memorate the 0th anniversary of the arrival of Mormon settlers into Salt Lake valley, July 24, 1847. '. A five-mile parade, in which more-than more-than 100 units will participate, heads the day's program. Beginning at 8:30 a. m. on the north side of South Temple street, between Main and State streets, the spectacular parade will move down Main street to Ninth South street, and proceed around the circular drive in Liberty park, where the march will end. ' Program Billed At 11:30 a. m. an entertainment program will be presented at the park grandstand, with Lou Ashe, master of ceremonies, and featuring 10 acts of Fanchon and Marco theatrical the-atrical stars. Bunny Dryden and his wife, Skipper, Skip-per, will perform their final aerial walk across a 200-foot steel wire connecting the Kearns building and the Ezra Thompson building at 1 p. m. Another free vaudeville show will be staged on a platform near Second Sec-ond South and Main streets at p. m., with regular Covered Wagon Days celebration entertainers. Cash prises totaling 13S00 will be distributed among leading cowboys and cowgirls Saturday evening when the finals of a thrilling rodeo will be held at the state fairgrounds. The colorful western spectacle begins be-gins at 8:19 p. m. Cash awards will be given to winners in 10 events. A matinee rodeo also will be held beginning at 2:13 p. m. |
