Show THE PEOPLE VOICE OF By Telegram Readers Reader Would Abolish Crossings In Mldblock Editor, Telegram: Our mid-block mid-block passenger crossings In downtown Salt Lake City are . certainly convenient, but are they safe? I hardly think so. Ths sign says. "8top for Pedestrians.1' Pe-destrians.1' So you start walking walk-ing across. The ear In the first lane politely halts. You walk in front of It and wham! With some fast foot work you escape being run down by a driver who saw the other car stop but thought the blankety-blank waa just double parking. One of these daya there la gdlng to be a bad accident because be-cause of this. It seems that some drivers can't be educated aa to pedestrian crossings. And in their favor. It can be said that double parking Is so prevalent that they do have a half excuse. What I aay is abolish the mid-block mid-block pedestrian crossings. This will cause some Inconvenience and undoubtedly will be strongly opposed. I am old enough to remember the daya when the street cars stopped In mldblock. Than the city fathers. In the interests of safety, okehed the end of thla practice. Boy, waa there a holler! You would have thought that the world waa coming com-ing to an end. But the change went through and I don't think anybody would want to return to the old daya. 1 think ths same would be true on these mldblock crossings. Let's do away with them, let the uproar subside, and we will find we have added another traffic safety plan. Not to mention the speeding up of downtown traffie and aa Increase in parking places which we eould well use. Haa anyone any other thoughts on my suggestion. It isn't patented. pat-ented.
