Show Queen Shauna, Two Attendants Rehearse for '47 Coronation The stentorian voice of a director, queen's robe and crown were about all that waa lacking lack-ing Friday night to make the south steps of the state capitol a huge movie set as the coronation coro-nation of the Days of '47 queen was rehearsed for Monday night. Queen Shauna Wood, her lovely attendants, the Misses Robyn Tibbs and Cherry Moalan-der, Moalan-der, and tiny Richard Ostler, 6, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry R. Ostler, 1842 Michigan ave., as crown-bearer, enacted the ceremony. Floodlights Flood-lights played on the area, making the expanse of granite atepa and columns a huge stage. Mrs, William Elggren and other members of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers committee in charge of the affair, directed the "dry run," but sans megaphone, waving arm and voluminous volu-minous script A modestly sized audience of citizens attracted at-tracted by illumination of an area usually more conspicuous for its lack of artificial lighting, witnessed the rehearsal. Joanne Iillywhlte, 9, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Ray L. Llllywhite, 284 K it, ana Connie Elggren, 9, daughter of the committee chair man and Mr. Elggren, 184T Michigan ave., who will serve as the queen's train-bearers, also took part. Actual ceremonies Monday on the capitol steps will get under way at 8:30 p-rru. pre ceded by a 15-minute musical program. Mayor Earl J. Glade will serve as master of ceremonies for the program, which will ee posting of colors by the Mervyn S. Ben nioa post No. 83, American Legion; invocation invoca-tion by Thomas B. Child, president. Days of '47, Inc., and greetings by Kate B. Carter,' president, Daughters of Utah Pioneer, before be-fore presentatioi of the queen. The coronation will be by Clinton D. Vernon, Ver-non, Utah attorney general, acting la the absence of Gov. J. Bracken Lee. Following the coronation ceremonies, A. William Lund, assistant historian. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, will deliver de-liver a tribute to the Utah pioneer. Following Follow-ing choral selection by the South high school alumni chorus, directed by Armant Willard-sen, Willard-sen, the queen and her retinue will retire to the rotunda of the capitol for a public reception re-ception until 10:30 p-m. |
