This condition keeps up as long as the 'high water lasts. We make our complaints to the city commission and to a few days there is an announcement that the county will drag the river channel or will build up the banks or some such thing. By that time the river usually lowers and the flooded areas dry up. Then the whole thing is forgotten for-gotten until' the next big rainstorm. rain-storm. I have repeatedly heard how some big project wss under way to put a stop to this flooding, but the only thing that happens is a lot of talk and no action. I thought we west siders had a civic Improvement association that would look after us when things got out of hand and we could get cooperation from city officials. I have ever seen particularly par-ticularly the women. I hesitate to make that statement since I have just arrived in the city, but the abort time I have been here convinces me that moat of the women in this area who drive automobiles ought to take a course In .manners. These women must think the traffic regulations were not made for them at all. , I have driven in about 46 states of the Union and, as a result feel that I am a fairly good driver, since I never have received a traffic ticket of any kind anywhere. I have driven the streets of Salt Lake City for a few weeks and have tried to live up to the regulations here, too. I have little success, however. Women drivers just won't let me be law-abiding. law-abiding. For example, the other day I drove down Main st A woman driver shot to front of me at an intersection and then, proceeded pro-ceeded to make a right turn from the lefthand lane. I almost ran Into her and Into another car. That la just a small example. I aay if Salt Lake is to continue to recognise these women as automobile driven, then please find some way to teach them to drive. Weat Virginian. Surely there are enough playgrounds play-grounds to this area to permit children to enjoy themselves without turning every motorist's hair gray. I don't blame the youngsters, but I do think something ought to be done to parents who have so little consideration over their youngster's safety that they don't watch where they play. The other day I was driving down one ' of the residential streets in the southeast section of the city. I sounded my horn for some children playing to tha . street They just kept on playing, play-ing, so I stopped and talked with them. A woman who had been hanging over the fence gossiping gossip-ing with a neighbor until that time walked over and gave me the worst tongue lashing I have ever had. I tried to explain that I was merely concerned about the children's chil-dren's safety. She told me to mind my own business and heaped some more Invective |
