Show SPECIAL SESSION Cooks Honored By Truman In Yule Fete WASHINGTON, Dec 23 UP) Pres. Truman held a special Christmas reception Monday for Elizabeth Blake and Elizabeth Moore, two Negro cooks at the White House. Carrying out a holiday custom, Mr. Trumsn Invited the White House staff and secret service men to his office. He shook hands with 573 snd thought the ceremony cere-mony ended. Then, William Simmons, White House receptionist noticed the two cooks standing in a corridor. Word of the reception had been late in reaching them. Simmons walked into the president's presi-dent's office and told him, "Mr. President, you missed the cooks." "Bill." Mr. Trumsn said, "bring them right in." The two cooks got the president's presi-dent's heartiest wish for a merry Christmas. Ths reception for the White House employes was followed by a reception for the undersecretaries undersecre-taries and assistant secretaries of the government departments. |
