Root, formerly one of the leading attorneys for Senator W. A. Clark, gave sensational testimony in the disbarment proceedings brought against A. J. Shores, chief counsel coun-sel for the Amalgamated Copper Mining company, who is accused of attempting to bribe Judge J. Edward Harney to render ren-der a decision favorable to the Amalga- mated Copper company In Its .litigation over the faous Minnie Heary mine, a property valued at about J10.WO.000. Attorney Root, under oath, testified 1 that the representatives of the Amalgamated Amalga-mated company were attempting, to secure se-cure a new trial and Judge Harney was given the choice- of : confessing- that he had received a .bribe from the Helnres for his decision or of being confronted with damaging affidavits.
