Show REPORT OF DOREMUS State Engineer Tells of ' Work Done During the Last Year. The fourth biennial report of State Englneeer Doremus was filed with Gov.-elect Cutler Thursday. It .covers the work done by the department during dur-ing the last two years. Nearly all of the work done by the office during that time has bean directed direct-ed toward the establishment, or securing secur-ing data for the establishment, of water wa-ter rights In the Weber river. It has been found by measurement that this river yields annually a now of 1.100,000 acre feet, of which 342,000 feet is used In irrigation, and 758,000 goes annually Into In-to the Great Salt lake. The total cost of the work when completed will be about 345,000. One of the Important matters which the Engineer was called upon to decide was the application of L. B. Dewey for a certain amount of water to be taken from the Green river for power purposes. pur-poses. Dewey desired to erect a power plant at a certain point on the Green river, and stated in his application that the water would be turned back into the river without any loss to Irrigation. The matter was investigated, and while it was found that the erection of the plant would not inconvenience any of the present water users, an arid tract of 100.000 acres could be Irrigated by taking the water from the rl,ver at the point proposed for the power plant, and the water could not be taken from the river if the plant was erected. For this reason the application was denied. Dewey carried the matter Into the courts. Judge Jacob Johnson decided In favor of Dewey, the State Engineer appealed ap-pealed the matter to the Supreme court, from which a decision is now awaited. After the work on the Weber river is , completed the department will take up the measurement of the other streams in the State. |
