Show QrIstIan;sdcntlstsiHccd : Not Resign From Other .Societies,' Leader Says! ' : ? i BOSTON. May 18. Mary Baker O. Eddy, pastor emeritus of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, who framed the recent by-law on organizations adopted by the church, has given to the Christian Science Journal the following fol-lowing explanation of this by-law: "I beg to inform my beloved members of the mother church that the by-law in article XXVI. of Its manual, does not require members of benevolent and progressive organisations such as the Free Masons, Odd Fellows, temperance societies and those of similar cult, to resign this membership. It specifies in plain English that individuals who become- members of our church shall not thereafter be made members of clubs or other organizations not named in its manual, and 'wherefore? Because our religious denomination - demands the faithful attention and labor of its members mem-bers in all philanthropic, therapeutic and progressive Christian work for the human race and relies upon the adequate, ade-quate, scientific source and resource therefor." |
