Show ALLEGED "COLD" CHECK J1AN CAUGHT A man giving the name of John L. Smith was arrested yesterday afternoon after-noon by Follce Sergt. Hempel and Detective De-tective Chase on the charge of passing a worthless check on Gilbert's general gener-al merchandise store of Murray. Smith passed an alleged "cold" check for $1'8 in payment for some clothing. The check was on the Bank of Nevada, made puyable to J. S. De Sanno and signed by A. T. Brown. OIHccrs of Murray went out looking for Smith. He left the hotel where he was staying while the officers were searching for hlin and boarded the street car for Salt Lake. The police were given a description of him and Sergt. Hempel and Detective Chase met the Murray car and placed him under arrest. At the police station when he was searched two other checks were found on him. One was made on the Washoe county bank for $8 and the other on the Bank of Nevada for $10. There were also several blank check books on various Oregon and Nevada banks. Smith was taken back to Murray by Town Marshal Michael Mauss, where his hearing will be held. |
