Although a dozen men were examined this morning the necessary twelfth and last Juror Wai not secured to try the murder .In. the . first , degree, charge against James M. Schockley. , It la probable,' however, that the. last Juror will be secured this afternoon. The eleven Jurors chosen visited the Novelty theater last night on the Invitation Invi-tation of Manager Wood. When court opened this morning DIs-trlct DIs-trlct Attorney Elchnor examined the talesmen of the specially summoned venire on their, voir dire. Of the forty men aummoned twenty-four twenty-four were sworn and accepted. Ele-ven men were not served, one was disqualified, two were excused on their own motion and bench warrant were lwnied for James Ray and Murray C. God be, who were served but failed to report for duty. About 11:30 o'clock: Godbe came Into court, and told Judge Mors that ba was busy with his work this morning and lorgot all about the summons. Judge Horse ruled he should be accepted accept-ed as a talesmaa and that the cost of the Issuance of the attachment b taxed against him. This will be about L70. Ten minutes later James Ray came In court and stated he had only been served with the summons short time before, and had harried to court. The excuse was accepted, i R. Matthews. Jr., Henry C. Barnhart, Frank I Hlnes, William J. Horn. Thomas F. Cronon, Elbert T. Burton, F, T. Burton, Jr., George H. Elms. George R. Richardson, Thomas Ger-rard. Ger-rard. David H. Lambert and Fred A. K. Meyer were each called successively to occupy the remaining vacant chair, but each had an unqualified opinion as to the merits of the case, ware challenged ,for cause by the defense and excused. 1 The noon adjournment was taken with Thomas W Green in - the Jury chair, being: examined.- |
