Jimmy Britt has donned the harness again and Is now In active training for his fight with Nelson and is working like a draught horse at that. He has moved his training quarters from Croll's Gardens to a place near the Cliff house and can be seen on the roads taking off weight every day. He has not done much Indoor work as yet", but as he haa kept himself In good shape since his fight with Oans he will not need a gTeat deal of work to put him on edge, Britt talks confidently of the outcome of the battle, although he does not underrate un-derrate Nelson a particle. He says that he hopes he will be the short ender In the betting, as he thinks a bet on himself him-self would be a good investment. It is probable, however, that the odds will not be greater than 6 to B either way. Teddy Murphy, who does the match making for the dangierous Dane, expresses ex-presses himgelf in a most sensible manner man-ner about the Battling one's future fights. He denies that he had agreed to give Young Corbett another fight shortly, but says that he is by no means side-stepping a match with the Denver-its. Denver-its. As every one knows, prize fighters are out for the money, and Murphy ays that he will match Nelson against Corbett any time that any reputable club will guarantee a purse large enough to make It worth his time .and trouble. In fact he says that Nelson will not quibble with any boy of his weight about a match. He will meet any of them who can get a good club to put up a satisfactory guarantee. Murphy Mur-phy says that he would like Nelson to rest and get out of training for a few months- after his match with Britt, but If there is any money In sight Nelson will be perfectly willing to go after it, rest or no rest. . The match with Britt simply narrows down to the proposition as to whether Britt can stop Nelson's rushes and force him to fight at long range. Nelson Nel-son Is admittedly the greater infighter of the two, and If he can close with Britt and meet him at close range the title Is almost certain to change hands. However, James Edward has a great straight left and if- he can stop Nelson's rushes with It he may win. |
