Show i,:L;zr is ciiV5 and ' V r - ' The one day's rest given -to the mining exchange by Labor day seemed1 to have a stimulating effect on the market, and not only was there a fairly active call, but prices were stronger than at the end of last week. ., Mammoth was especially strong, and sold up to S1.E5. with an active demand, and closed with tL60 asked and L Wdt May Day maintained all the strength 'which It' gained during the last week, and gained somewhat, going to 5c, and closed with the trading active at that figure. Uncle Sam Con. was In . good demand, and moved up a notch to 22c, but the stock was freely offered at that price at the close, without taker. New York' Bonanza . was strong at o to ' 4 He. but at the close the buying orders at these ' prices seemed to have been filled, and the stock went begging when offered at the latter price. Daly-Judge showed no. especial strength, . but was steady around $4.60, and Sacramento was strong at lie. with no stock on the market at the close. Montana-Tonopah suffered another relapse, and sold down to J1.75, with very few buying orders In evidence, although that price was freely offered at the close. There were 10,400 shares of stock sold for $2566.50.- The closing quotations follow: . I ' Bld.rAskedJ Boston Consolidated 7.00 . Beck Tunnel .06 .... The skips carry over twice as much as is handled by a double deck cage and t,he only objection objec-tion to them is the fact that the cages must be replaced when the men are sent below and again when they are hoisted to the surface. - This is - done very quickly, however, and as the Daly "West runs only two shifts In the twenty-four hours, little time is lost. -The change entailed the building of loading bins at every level and at the surface, but the expense is more than met by the reduction In the cost of handling. The skips have not as yet gone Into commission, but are expected to do so on Wednesday. . , ,, , , - . ; , . STAB COIT. SHIPMENT V. HOT BXP0B.TE2) UPOH". The shipment of 'Star Con. ore which was sent to the Bingham Con. smelter under the new contract by. which the ore of the Star Con. is to be handled by the Bingham Con. company, has not as yet been settled for, but It Is known that one of the four cars is of a much higher grade than the trial shipment which was made some weeks ago, and will yield returns to the company which were unexpected un-expected by the stockholders It Is true that this one car was not of sensational ore, but it has far exceeded the values from whjch the company expected ex-pected to derive enough money to develop de-velop the mine. " , Still more good news Is released by the management. It has been found that much more high-grade ore occurred oc-curred in the different fissures than was expected, and this is being carefully mined and kept separate from the second-class ore. It is the intention, of the management to wait until enough of this class of ore has accumulated to warrant a shipment and then to send it to market separately from the regular shipments. It cannot be determined accurately ac-curately at present Just what the average aver-age of this first-class ore Is, but from the samples which have been secured it will run high" enough to compare favorably favor-ably with the sensational shipments which have been made from the Star Con. in the past. " UTAH 07 FISH SPBHTOS , HAS PLENTY OF MEN. The Utah of Fish Springs has been bothered for some time by the difficulty in obtaining men to work in the mine but that difficulty- has at last been overcome. When the superintendent was ordered toVincrease the force at the mine it was thought that he would have some difficulty, but the local office of-fice has been sending out three or four miners by every stage and the applicants appli-cants still continue to apply for work. The new boarding-houses and bunk-houses bunk-houses which have been recently erected erect-ed have made it much more comfortable comfort-able at the mine than has formerly been the case, and the miners are more willing to stay. The latest news from the mine states that the recently opened Kround is responding1 frallantlv to de- velopment and the Utah has a bigger mine than ever before. LESSON FROM MICHIGAN- ; -v ; - " ' i It has been the boast of the Utah mines that the big copper mines of Michigan could not show . the; mine . managers of this State anything in the way of economical handling of ores, but the Daly West has been obliged to take a lesson In the art from the Calumet Calu-met and Hecla. That the Daly West Belief of the Poor. Pauper Clerk James Sabine has filed his report for the month of August with the Cbunty Commissioners. The report shows that there has been spent during the month: For railroad fares, rents, etc., $381.06; for fuel and clothing. cloth-ing. $1102.45. Total, $1489.50.
