The convention was called to order by Vice-President A. W. Charter In the ab-1 ab-1 eenc of President Lewis A. Prathar, who is in California, where he has rone on account of ill-health. The following . delegates were present: Park City, E. F. Boyle and D. Baxter; Bingham, Frank Erlckson, Fred Lewis; . ' Eureka, William Bacon, D. F. Russell; - Gold Mountain. Thomas W. Splan; Murray, Mur-ray, Thomas Magee; "West Jordan. A. W. Charter. Charles Gacey; Mercur, : Louis Roberta; Stockton, Robert Burns; Summit, Joseph Hartley. Delegates from Alta, Mllford, State-line State-line and Valley are expected to arrive J.hls afternoon. -; Boutin? Disposed Of. T - The vice-president read the annual business report of the union, and com- mittees were appointed on -credentials. officers' report, auditing, mileage and pen diem, by-laws and constitution, and press correspondence. The remainder . of the session was taken up with a general gen-eral discussion of plans for bettering the conditions and organisation of the ; union.. ; The session adjourned at 12 o'clock. The convention will meet dally every remaining day In the week from to 12 a. m. and from 2 to 6 p. m. The business of the convention will be to oonslder methods of bettering social and financial status of the organisation. It now has twelve locals, with a membership mem-bership of 3500, after an existence of three years. - The State officers are Lewis A. Prath-er, Prath-er, president: A. W. Charter, vice-president; Joseph P. Langford, secretary-treasurer; secretary-treasurer; E. F. Boyle, James J. Ryan, Thomas McGee, Louis Robertl and W. C Conant, executive board. Aiding- Colorado Strikers. The union Is taking an active part In the financial support of the Colorado strikers. A new hospital costing $12,000 to $15,000 Is now being erected by the Park City local, which has 1200 members. mem-bers. The hospital will be used for union men, and will be equally open to all persons In need of surgical attention. The excavation for Its site began last week. Among the prominent persons In attendance at-tendance are the following presidents of locals: J. P. Langford, Park City; Frank Erlckson, Bingham; Robert Burns, Stockton. The delegates to the convention will represent their respective locals at the State convention of labor unions, which opens at Federation hall at 8 o'clock to-night. |
