Among the new designs show for-spring costumes it may be noticed that the long coat is to be Quite discarded In favor of the short and even exaggeratedly short Jacket, but there is no reason to believe the- smart and most becoming long coats of last season have gone entirely out of fashion. Made in linen corduroy and serge, for Instance are some ex- tremely smart costumes quite on the same lines as those of last season. . In cloth or cheviot there are undoubtedly un-doubtedly more short jackets than the 1 long coats, one reason being that: for spring and the cool days of summer the long coat, .especially if intended to be worn with a skirt of the same material. Is often too heavy and warm, whereas the short jacket gives all the protection protec-tion from the cold that is necessary. And yet again in these materials the tailors' are making up a few most attractive' at-tractive' styles, the skirt trimmed with braid and the coat to match so long that it reaches half-way down the skirt. The exaggeratedly long coat Is, however, how-ever, quite out of style as part of a costume cos-tume and is merely worn as an extra wrap. , ' ' There is a three-quarter length Jacket that bids fair to be very popular. Made of mixed cheviot in effect like the materials mate-rials used In men's business clothes, the costume is on the rather severe order. The coat is half fitting in front, but must fit tight in the back; there are attached at-tached side pieces, which, however, do not extend entirely around the coat, only to the waist, for from there the fronts hang straight. There is a collar-less collar-less effect around, flat band of cloth trimmed with braid, and the same thing down the front; on the outside of the coat is intended te- fasten on the inside or the facing If the coat be double-breasted, double-breasted, for then the fronts are to be thrown back. Full sleeves gathered into in-to a cuff that matches the collar and the facing. Fancy buttons of gilt or silver, sil-ver, not large and round in shape are used on these Jackets, and as the material ma-terial is, as a rule, rather somber in effect the buttons brighten it astonishingly. |
