Councilman Fernstrom' stated that the Council had granted a blanket franchise to the street car company, and this would run for fifty years, whether or not any. work was done. Fernstrom's . statement aroused a ftorra .of denunciation against such Council methods. Holman Introduced ' and .advocated the adoption of resolutions resolu-tions favoring the "withdrawal of the franchises .where the company had failed to do the proper work. He said that franchises bad been' violated and that the company should, not receive conpideratlon at the hands of Superior addition residents. These resolutions, did not pass, as it was thought that milder measures would be more fruitful. ' Edward Brook, George R. Jones, H. r. Folsom, Hudson Smith and W. A. - ' Holman were appointed a committee, with D. P. Felt as secretary, to ronfer with the officers of the company and . come to some understanding. If the company will not come to terms, the committee will take up the , matter with the Council. - The people of -the northern part of the city will be satisfied with an extension ex-tension - along any one of the three northern lines." One line would run from the -Warm Fprings to Ninth North. Another from the corner of Fourth North and Fifth West to Ninth North, thence west to Sixth West, thence north to the Hot ' Springs, and the other would run north on .Eighth, West to the Hot , Springs. . |
