Show VILSONBILL IS KILLED : Railroad Committee Rc-quests Rc-quests Him , to Withdraw With-draw the Measure. f ' A large delegation - of railroad men and capitalists appeared before the - House Committee on Railroads . this morning to protest against the passage of Wilson's railroad bill, which provides for the appointment of a Commissioner who shall regulate rates and conditions of railroad traffic in the State. The measure was severely denounced as vicious in Its nature and one calcu- ' lated to drive out and keep away capital cap-ital seeking investment as well as virtually vir-tually prohibiting any naw roads from 1 building into Utah. The committee decided that the measure mea-sure was too radical to have .any chance of passage and requested Mr. Wilson to withdraw it and prese.it one covering such provisions as he thought might receive re-ceive the favorable consideration of the Legislature. This he agreed to do. -Among those who appeared before the committee this morning were Trade Manager Schumacher, Assistant Gen- , - ' eral Passenger . Agent Spencer and Attorney At-torney Williams of the Oregon Short Line; John C. Cutler, Joseph Geoghe-gan Geoghe-gan and CoL Archibald Milner. . JOHNSOM" PRESENTS A SILL AIMED AT SALOONS. Senator Willis Johnson Introduced a bill this afternoon which provides that all saloons must close promptly at midnight mid-night and not open for business until 6 o'clock the following morning. - - "I will work "hard for .the passage of this measure,", said Senator Johnson, ' "because I am convinced that it will make Senator Bamberger's "booze bill" unnecessary. The thing to be done is to stop the manufacture of , drunkards rather than to seek to cure at the expense ex-pense of the State the ones we now have." |
