Concerted buying of the Gould stocks lent improved toae to the market and there was a spurtxf activity and higher high-er prices all around. Wabash preferred, Missouri Pacific, the Kansas & Texas stocks, .Texas Pacific; and Iowa Central : preferred rose a point or more,, but gains otherwise were confined to small fractions. St. Paul, Reading and Erie were bought, with more freedom and the United States Steel stocks also displayed dis-played considerable firmness. Efforts to realize caused some shading of prices later and business became quite dull. The Wabash Btocks developed - new strength, the common rising nearly a point and the preferred 24.
