SULLIVAN Salt Lake City-has bulwark of strength in its lawyers, strength that is supplemented by the individual brilliancy bril-liancy that has made the bar of the city famous throughout the country. The subject of this sketch, George M. SuLlivan, has obtained enviable prominence, by reason of his identification with some of the important cases in the city and State courts and his reputation in the profession is widely recognized. He was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, March IS, 1866. lie was educated in the southern Iowa normal school nd the Scientific Institute of Bloomfield, la., from which institution he graduated in 1889. Immediately thereafter be went to Broken Bow, Neb., where he taught school and read law anl was admitted to the oar in 1890. In the fall of that year he located in Alliance, Jeb., and commenced the practice of his profession. From the very beginning begin-ning his force of character and energetic temperament brought him to the front and as his experience ripened and his appreciation of the opportunities of business broadened, he achieved greater success and the list of victories vic-tories to his credit is now a large, one. His arguments are always effective and his briefs exhaustive of the principles involved. He remained in Alliance till 1899, when he came to Salt Lake Citv and has been here ever since. He has applied himself with indefatigable industry to his profession here and' has met with corresponding correspond-ing success. He is one of the most industrious of men, thorough and conscientious in all that he does, and whenever when-ever the interests of his clients seem to require special promptness the nights do not interfere with his work. During his professional career be has taken an active interest in politics and as far back as 1S94 in Alliance Neb., ne ran for County Attorney on the People 's-Labor ticket or more properly called the Ponulist-Independ-ent ticket. Two years ago Mr. Sullivan became identified with the American party and ever since has been m loyal subscriber to 'its doctrines. He is nominee for Representative to the Legislature and is regarded as great strength to the ticket. Aside from being a keen, sagacious lawyer he is a man of praiseworthy public spirit. In public and private life he stands for the moral advancement of society and the influence of his presence in the community is for culture and moral growth. 'I |
