After considerable; discussion laat evening, the City Council Finance committee com-mittee instructed its chairman", W. Mont Ferry, to solicit bids per diem from expert accountants, - to audit the citv books. On this basis the special auditor will work until the first , of the year. . - ' , . , The committee " at its meeting last evening declared that it was imperative impera-tive that the city have a nore compact and systematic method of bookkeeping in the various departments of the city government.- Councilman Fernstrom asserted that the books of the entire city hall were in bad shape as to methods. The City Treasurer, be asserted, had ' never' received re-ceived any instructions as to what method he ahould pursue in collecting special taxes for improvements. ' - The chairman was authorised to solicit so-licit bids on the work, and as a basis of beginning to go back in the records as far as may be necessary to strike, a true balance.
