Show IN MEMORY OF GREATBATTLE Vice-President FairbanHs Addresses 6000 People on the Fiftieth Anniversary of Battle of Ossawatomie. OSSAWATOMIE, Kan.. Aug. 30. Here today, on the battlefield where a half century cen-tury ago an armed conflict over slavery took place, Vice-President Fairbanks delivered de-livered a stirring address to 6000 persons. The occasion was the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the battle of Ossawatomie In which John Brown was a central figure. On the stand with Mr. Fairbanks were Gov. Hoch, United States Senators Long and Benson and several other prominent Kansans. Mr. Fairbanks left late in the day for Dodge City, Kan., where tomorrow tomor-row he is to speak at a G. A. R. reunion. From Dodge City he will go to Boise City, Ida., as the guest of the National Irrigation congress. In his - address here Vice-President Fairbanks spoke of the stirring times that led up to the border wars in Missouri Mis-souri and Kansas. He told of the effect of the early struggles upon the country's history and from them drew a lesson for future generations. |
