Show POOL CHAMPION IS LIVING HERE J. L. Malone, Who Holds the World's Record as Pool Player, Now Calls Salt LaKe Home. : ( : Salt Lake City is now the home of J. L. Malone, champion pool player of the world for eight years. The renowned 4J'.' L." for many" years met the pool experts of the world in New York and defeated such good men with the cue as DOro,, Clearwater, Frank Powers, Werner, iKnight, Frey and Sutton. . Sutton is now champion billiard player of the world, having defeated Slosson and Jake Schaefer. That's the kind of timber Malone went up against; : and won out. Powers also was a champion cham-pion at one time. D'Oro is the present champion pool player of the world. For eight years Malone was billiard and pool instructor at the Denver Athletic Ath-letic club, and gave many exhibitions of his wonderful 'skill in pushing the ivories around. "The best hold, in my opinion," said Malone todav, "for billiard and pool players is a loose one, because the fingers fin-gers close instinctively when the stroke is applied. Players in this city, with but few exceptions, hold cues too hard." Malone .will play a handicap match Friday" night in tne new poolroom, 53 West Second South street, with Sib Freeman, the former having to run 100 before the latter gets 75. Since Malone 'a arrival here, interest in billiards and pool has greatly increased in-creased and several tournaments are likely to be-held this season between ball and cue experts. |
