Show WHO IS THE BETTER MAN? A cable comes from Europe that Mr. Bryan does not care tb be a candidate for President. That he hopes a bft-ter bft-ter man than he will receive the honor In 1908. That sounds lovely. The only thing that raises a shadow of doubt Is whether In Mr. Bryan's estimation there can be a better candidate than himself. He Is not bound to answer that question, and that leaves the whole business open Just as it was before. In an illustrated paper of New York Is a picture of a star which various candidates with carpet sacks are following fol-lowing for 1908. That reminds us that all the astrologers and soothsayers are saying that Mr. Bryan's star has passed its zenith, and has gone into conjunction with adverse planets, which makes his nomination In 1908 Impossible. But, as :he star of Bethlehem returned at certain Intervals, it is possible that Mr. Bryan's star may come back, and that is the point of view which Mr. Bryan and all of his friends are no doubt star-gazing to find out Just now. |
