Show BUILDING BOOM GOES v MERRILY ON; SUMMER 'V: AFFECTS LOCAL MARKET Thtf effect of the summer' months was feit by the local real estate market during the past week. It made the market remarkably slow, and as a result re-sult only a few transactions were reported re-ported for the week. The demand for property during the week was uniform, and no particular locality was favored with a heavy run. ' A large number of new properties were listed during the week. Several good bargains were posted this eek in vacant lots in various parts of the city, mostly in the southeast south-east and southwest portions of the city. A number of property owners who are located on. streets that are about to have sewers, paving and sidewalks . laid are attempting to get rid of their holdings.- Several of these investments are looked upon by real estate men as good opportunities, while others will bring a slow market. Never before in the history of Salt Lake City has there been such a boom in new buildings homes, stores, barns, in fact everything in the building build-ing line. Brick dealers are telling their - customers that they cannot fill orders until September 1, as the output out-put up to that time has been spoken for. -This is due to the large amount of brick contracted for this year by the smelters at Garfield and other places. Scores of foundations throughout through-out the city are waiting for the- brick ; so ar to start on the building of the houses, It is said that no one can go three blocks in any direction in Salt Lake City and not encounter a new building. The general run of the new buildings seems to be toward cpttagee and dwellings. , A greater amount of suburban building build-ing Is now going on than ever before. The demand for cottages and homes was greatest in the local real estate market' during the past week. One Brigham street property, 77 by 82 H feet, between State and Second East streets, was sold during the week for $9000. Dr. J. F. Lyon of Marys vale purchased a 38 by 182 piece of property., prop-erty., with house, at 1027 East Second South street, for $3150. . According to the local dealers the prospects are for the largest fall business busi-ness that has even been seen by Salt Lake City. Although the past week has been slow, It is asserted that It Is a good indication of a quick market mar-ket later in t.ne season. Many of the new houses will be ready for the fall months. Most of the people are now In the canyons and resorts. As soon as they return and the weather becomes be-comes more settled business will quicken up again. ' |
