Show GOVERTO GETS WROTH rtT NAYLOR; , ACCUSES LATTER OF BAD FRITH The trouble between Adj.-Gen. Eay-mond Eay-mond C. Najlor and Got. Cutler took another turn yesterday. Last Saturday THE TELEGEAM published the resignation resig-nation of Mr. Naylor as he had sent it to the Governor. Late that afternoon the Governor sent the following letter to Adjt.-Gen. Naylor: "In one of the Salt Lake papers I see what purports to be a copy of a letter written to the Governor, conveying con-veying your letter of resignation as Adjutant-General of the N. G. U. If you wrote the letter of which this purports pur-ports to be a copy, I have not seen the original, and was not aware of the nature na-ture of its contents until I saw the , not deTote the neeeeaary time to the duties of Adjutant-General on account of the meager pay attached to tha office. And finally, you wtll also remember, . that on tha date siren abore, in the presence of tha party there referred re-ferred to, you requested that in tha . letter written that afternoon offering the position of Adjutant-General to another person, it should be stated that the offer waa made on your recommendation,' becauaa you would prefer the position of Brigadier-General and would be pleaaed to accept that office. In view of these facts, I think you will agree with ma that the publication of copies of your resignation in the papers and the couching of tha resignation In the terms used therein, will materially Interfere with tha consummation of tha plans considered by us in the presence of a third party, for the reorganization re-organization of tha Guard and the Gorernor's surf. And. I may add, it appears to me a serious bresch of faith on your part. And before I shall be convinced of the contrary, a very satisfactory explanation on your part wtll be required.. j Mr. Naylor admitted last night that I the conversation referred to in the Governor's letter had taken place, but stated that it was after he had mailed his resignation and had informed the Governor of that fact. It is the desire of Mr. Naylor to sever his connection with the .guards as quickly as possible. copy in the paper; and you will greatly oblige by sending the letter to me." Mr. Naylor lost no time in sending the resignation to the Governor the second time. With it he sent the following fol-lowing letter: Herewith I enclose a copy of my letter of resignation as Adjutant-General of tha National Na-tional Guard of Utah, with the request that It be accepted at your convenience. This letter of resignation waa mailed to you on November II. and tha official envelope containing the enclosure waa returned to me unopened on the 22nd InsC, the postmark bearing data of November 22. 1:30 p. m. . This, therefore, la the second time It has been forwarded to you, and. as atated above, I request that you accept it at your convenience. conve-nience. Yesterday afternoon the Governor sent the following letter to Mr. Naylor: As a communication purporting to be your letter of resignation from the position of Adjutant-General of the National Guard (a Utah, and asking that the resignation be accepted ac-cepted on Janutry 1. 1907. or before, has been published in the daily papers of Salt Lake City, I am forced to think that you have written your, resignation and furnished copies of it to the pipers before I have seen it. If this la the caae. I have the honor to request that you furnish to this office on November 30. or aa soon after that date aa possible, your report for the biennial period ending on that day. and your resignation will thereon receive Immediate consideration. considera-tion. I deem It proper to refer to a few Items pertaining to this matter, and I shall take the liberty of calling your attention to them in this communication. On the afternoon of November No-vember 21, the day your resignation is supposed sup-posed to be dated, you were In the Governor's Gover-nor's office, and in the presence of a third party, yon heard the Governor explain his plans for the reorganisation of the National Guard and the Governor'a staff. These plans Included a change In the office of Adjutant-General, Adjutant-General, and the acceptance by you of the position of Brigadier-General. In the preeenee of the third pdrty referred to. you approved these plana. And yon atated that you were not accustomed to the detail work required of the Adjutant-General, that you felt yourself incompetent to do the work satisfactorily, and would therefore prefer a position in which you would be relieved of this class of work, and have the time to devote de-vote to the purely military affairs of tha Guard. ..
