Show MAN IS KILLED BY AUTOMOBILE Machine BacKing ' Oat of Sharman-Ottinger's Garage Gar-age Shop When It Runs Over Aged Deaf Man. Daniel Woods. 68 years of age, died at the Holy Cross hospital at noon today as the result of Injuries received by be ing run over by an automobile at 4:30 tills morning. He waa crossing the street In front of the Sharman-Ottinger Automobile Automo-bile company's establishment when a Machine Ma-chine backing out of the garage ship ran over him. The driver, C. D. Redman, Red-man, cialms to have blown his horu In warning; but the old man, who was deaf, failed to bear it. , Dr. H. N. Mayo was summoned and the man was taken to the Holy Crosa hospital. hospi-tal. A careful examination showed that several ribs bad been broken and that two of them had penetrated the right lung. He died a short time after arriving ar-riving at the hospital. Mr. Redman is known as one of the most careful drivers of an auto in the city.' "I tooted the horn to warn people peo-ple that the machine was coming out of the house and looked back as best I could." be said, wlten asked about the accident. "I did not see any one in the way and so continued my course. Suddenly I felt a Jar and stopped the machine. When I got out I found a man lying between the front and back wheels. No one regrets this accident more than I do." said Mr. Redman. Woods had been a resident of Salt Lake for the last thirteen years. As far as is known he had no relatives in this city. He came to Utah from Canada Can-ada and had made his home for some time with the Fowler brothers. For some time Woods, who Is an old mining prospector, had been employed as a porter at the Valley House saloon. |
