Show THINKS WESTERN RATES TOO LOW President of Great Western Believes There Should Be No General Reduction in Railroad Rates. CHICAGO. Sept. 7. President Stlckney of the Chicago Great Western differs radically rad-ically from most high railroad officials on most phases of the rate question, but he stands with them In contending that there should be no general reduction of rates. Mr. Stlckney was in Chicago yesterday, yes-terday, having come here to attend the Great Western's annual meeting. "I don't think railroad rates on the average are too high, in the United States." said Mr. Stlckney.. "What is -needed Is not a horizontal reduction, but equalization. The Pennsylvania charges about the same per ton mile as the Great Western, although the density of it traffic is much greater. Probably our rates are too low. while the Pennsylvania's Pennsyl-vania's are too high. We are making money at the present rates, hut should the country become less prosperous there Is no certainty that we could continue to do so. Rates generally in the Northwest North-west are too low, compared with those in the East." This annual meeting of the Oreal Western was the fourteenth. J. W. Lusk. N. D. Flower and R. C. Wight were reelected re-elected as directors. |
