Show WARREN SPEAKS FOR CATTLE MEASURE WASHINGTON, March 14.-Mr. Warren addr2ssed the Senate on the bill extending extend-ing from twenty-eight to thirty-six hours the time during which live stock In transit tran-sit on railroad trains may be confined without change, saying that the measure was In the Interest of humanitarlanlsm and should be passed. He said that the extension of timV was to be made only I upon the request of shippers, and that it would not wtfrk a hardship on either owners or their stocK. f The bill was reported by the Committee on Agriculture, and a number of Senators made objection that It should have been considered by the Committee on Interstate Inter-state Commerce. Mr. Elkins expressed the opinion that the bill would have been reported favorably favor-ably by the Interstate Commerce committee, commit-tee, which has the consideration of It. Mr. Tillman contended that to keep cattle cat-tle confined for more than twenty-eight hours would cause a feverish condition, rendering the stock unfit for butchering. Mr. Warren contended that the result would be the opposite indicated - by the Senator. After further discussion of the measure by Messrs. Carter. Lodge, Hey-burn, Hey-burn, Galllnger and Spooner, the bill was laid aside. |
