Show (WEWEES; A large and. brilliant .audience at the Salt Lake Theater laet night heard the Orpheus club In a musical recital, assisted; as-sisted; ty . Madame Lydla Sterling, contralto, con-tralto, Mr. Glen Hall, tenor, and Mr. Arthur Ar-thur 8hepherd. accompanist. ' The programme pro-gramme opened by a chorus of the club, consisting of about fifty voices. The first se action was 'The Long Day Closes." followed by a medley of Southern airs, which t awakened much spplauae. ,The chorus Is weU trained, and the shadings in tone and expression were especially " ' Mrs, Sterling sang the flret solo, Shubert s "Aufenthal," In German. Her lull, rich voice gave a meaning to the melody that gave It Understanding even to an audience not Interpreting the German Ger-man words. She was well received, and responded to an encore, singing in English. En-glish. Mr. Hall followed her on the pro- frtmme, and proved a great favorite, ho range of his splendid tenor voice la unusual, his low notes have a peculiar softness, and his high notes a smoothness not often attained. He sang with much feeling and expression, and was frequently frequent-ly recalled each time he appeared on the" programme. The solos of Madame Sterta ing and Mr.' Hall were Interspersed with elections from the club, and the entlr arrangement waa a happy one The club excelled In Its interpretation of negro melodies, and Kevin s charming little lullaby, "Mighty Lak' a Rose," was especially es-pecially pleasing. Mr. Hall gave some old Irish and Scotch airs with good effect . .. e . e ... . , .... ; y The Lyric Is, certainly getting the Mood shows all In a bunch lately, ae Maaager Gulney announces that the first four performances per-formances of the' "Yankee Doodle Girls" has broken all records focthe season, and bids fair to break the previous records rec-ords for the remainder of the week. The matinees especially are growing, as yesterday yes-terday - afternoon, the -regular Monday matinee, waa nearly sold out.
