The dlsburs-' dlsburs-' fng clerk of the -Senate disallowed the ' claim of Postmaster James Clove of Provo j for five days' attendance as a witness In ' the Bmoot case at S3 a day, on the ground t .at Clove Is already drawing a salary ; from the Government as postmaster. Clove was . paid his actual expenses, I amounting in the aggregate to $175. All i the other witnesses received. In addition to their expenses, the per diem which Is allowed under the law except to Government Govern-ment officers. . The expenses of the Srooot hearing, including1 in-cluding1 witnesses fees, stenographers' ' fees, service on witnesses, etc., will ag-, ag-, frrerate about $21,000. This does ' not Include In-clude the attorneys' fees. John O. Carlisle received a retainer t-f J 0 from the protestants. It Is reported that Worthlngton, attorney for Senator Bmoot, will receive an equal amount. |
