Opening prices on the stock market today varied only slightly from those of last night, and changes were quite evenly divided between be-tween gains and losses. After about a dozen of the important slocks had rleen a point or more, the market turned downwards down-wards and much of the rise was wiped out' -Duluth, South Bhore & Atlantis preferred improved 2ft, Lead J, L. &j N., People's Gas. Locomotive and Colo- j rado Fuel ,1 to 1H. and St. Paul, Read- lng. Amalgamated, Copper Smelting and Consolidated, Gas 4 to 1. Great Northern North-ern preferred fell and Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic 1. Prices got up agalrt in the second hour with the principal advances in stock which were weak yesterday. The demand I died out again on the rise. Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie rose 4. I Great Northern preferred 2, Northern Paclflo IV Amalgamated Copper 1H. Anaconda An-aconda 4 and Southern Pacific, Canadian Pacific, Missouri Pacific, .Wabash preferred, pre-ferred, Brooklyn Transit, International Paper, Central Leather and Ice L Bonds were steady. v ' There was not much change to prices outside of the Northwestern group and a few others. Business continued very small and quite generally limited to the more popular speculative stocks. Minneapolis, Minne-apolis, St. Paul ft Sault Ste. The market remained excessively narrow during the greater part of the afternoon, but showed some further Improvement in spots. Reading, Read-ing, Amalgamated Copper and Consolidated Consoli-dated Gas got up 2 points and Ontario ft Western J. . ' , Prices touched 'the highest of the day In the final hour and brought some of the early laggards Into the list of gains of a point. But the extension of the gains was not important. The wheat market mar-ket opened easy" today with pit traders inclined to be bearish because of favorable favor-able weather In the Southwest for the crop. The principal sellers were commls-sion-houpes and local traders. Increased stocks of wheat at 'Minneapolis also favored fa-vored the lower prices. May wheat opened unchanged at He lower at 7878c to 7S7c, and declined to 78Hc. The corn market was firm on active demand de-mand for cash corn by commission-houses. There-was considerable changing from the May option to July. May corn opened unchanged un-changed to He higher at 44(&44c to 44V1C, advanced- to 44V444o and declined to 44c. . The oats market was steady on a fait demand by commission-houses. Trading in general, however, was very light. The May optical open unchanged at 30c and advanced to SuVic. The provisions market was firm chiefly because of a 6c advance In the price ot live hogs. The principal buyers were commission-houses and pit traders, but offerings offer-ings were very light. May pork opened 5c higher at $16.25; lard was unchanged to 2Vfcc higher at S8.17H8.20; libs advanced 2Hc to S107H.
