Show TALKS WITH PRESIDENT President John Mitchell of Mine-Workers Asks for Position for Editor. WASHINGTON. Oct. 3. John Mitchell, Mitch-ell, president of the United Mine Work ers of America, had an interview with President Roosevelt today by appointment. appoint-ment. He remained with the President about half an hour. At the conclusion of his Interview Mr. Mitchell said he had come to Washington to see the President, not at the latter's invitation, but of his own volition, to talk with him about "a personal matter." , . Pressed for information as to the nature na-ture of his mission, he said that he had urged the President to appoint Louis Hammerllng, editor of the official organ or-gan of the United Mine Workers, as collector of internal revenue for the Scranton, Pa., district. He declined to indicate whether the appointment would be made or not. Hammerling Is opposed by some members of the Pennsylvania Penn-sylvania Congressional delegation. "I did not discuss with the President tbe labor situation In the anthracite coal flelds." said Mr. Mitchell. "My business with blm was purely on this personal matter." |
