Show , FAIRLY GOOD BUSINESS .i ON MINING EXCHANGE close-down is merely temporary, he refuses re-fuses to give the reason for the shut- down. It was expected that the tunnel would cut the Mazeppa vein in the near future, and whether the tunnel is shut down to prevent the news of a strike getting out until sufficient of the stock is garnered in or not, is being eagerly discussed. The closing down of the work in the tunnel evidently scared some of the shareholders, from the amount thrown on the market Monday morning, i but the price was wonderfully steady for such a market as prevails at the present pres-ent time. It is known that three bodies of good ore have been encountered in the extension exten-sion of the Ontario drain tunnel through Daly ground and that these discoveries have materially improved the value of the mine there is no doubt It is hardly to be believed that the work in the Federal tunnel has proven unsatisfactory. Th -week opened on fairly good business busi-ness on the mining exchange, but the trading was dull and the day was saved by the dealing In two fairly high-priced high-priced , stocks, Daly and New York. . Prices did not vary to any alarming ex- -' tent, the market' being fairly stationary In this respect, and the prospects for a r- good week on the exchange are slight. The general trend of the market was dull and. slow. IAJax with the rest of the stocks on the board was slow, but steady, Selling at 10H cents. ' , Daly was the feature of the market and no one but the insiders seems to I know Just what is doing. The price of ' this stock rose as high as $2.64. but fell V, . off on the sale of 1500 shares to J2.50, at (I which price It closed. Uncle Sam Consolidated sold at 23 i cents, with very little stock coming out f , at that price, although the demand was good. I New York had one of Its usual seesaw days, opening at 60 cents, going to 6 and closing at 63 cents. The trading In, New York was unusually heavy. " Petro advanced strongly on the open board, going to 10 cents after opening f at 8 cents. Silver Shield advanced to 154 cents, : while Lower Mammoth was strong at 16 cents. Crowther, who visited the Continental-Alta Saturday and Sunday, reports that there has been a small elide along the line of the Continental-Alta tramway and that one of the towers has been destroyed entirely. It is lucky that the slide came at- the time it did and not after the tram was in operation, as there will be ample time to repair the damages, which do not amount to much. Mr. Crowther feels sure that the trouble with slides is practically over for his season at least, and within a short space of time expects to have the tram in operation. The shipments of copper ore from the Continental-Alta to the valley smelters still continue regularly. W"ORX PROGRESSING WELL. News from Pack City states that the drift from the Little Btll shaft which will drain the workings of the West Quincy is moving forward without a check, and that splendid progress Is being be-ing made. There are two machines working in (he face all the time and the miners are making ten feet a day on an average. The machinery, which was installed especially for the purposo of furnishing power to run this drift, is doing its work splendidly and has been found to be perfectly capable of doing all that will be asked of It. There remains re-mains about 1300 feet of work to be done before the West Quincy territory is reached and this will bje covered as rr pldly as possible.
