Show QUORUM BROKEN IN THE COUNCIL Action Defeated on Resolution Res-olution Regarding the Water Rights. A resolution asking for an investigation investi-gation of the water question, and what has been and will be done with the city's money, caused an uproar in the City Council last evening, and In the midst of the fight Councllmen Harten-steln Harten-steln and Preece departed, leaving the Council without a quorum. The trouble was started by an apparently ap-parently Innocent resolution presented by Councilman Wood Just before adjournment. ad-journment. It read as follows: "Be It resolved bv the City Council of Salt Lake City, that the Mayor. City Attorney. City Engineer and special water committee be, and are hereby instructed to furnish said Council, at Its next regular meeting, copies of all contracts made, names of parties In said contracts and all moneys paid or to be paid to same; also copies of all land, water rights, leases or any other Information In-formation In their possession pertaining to the purchase of land and water of Big Cottonwood or, any other land or water bought or contracted for by said parties.". As soon as the resolution was presented pre-sented Councilman Fernstrom got the floor and proceeded to denounce the resolution as a matter of politics. Councilman Coun-cilman Black demanded that the resolution resolu-tion be passed. When the vote was called Hartensteln and Preece had left the Council chamber, leaving only seven members behind. Councilman A. J. Davis, acting president, adjourned the meeting. |
