Show FRENCH DUELS. Th1 absurdities of the duel pass all understanding. un-derstanding. The Comtesse de Martel (Gyp) makes some personal allusions to Capt. Oall in a novel. Capt. Gall demands satisfaction from some masculine representative repre-sentative of that lively lady, and the Cointe de Martel is willing to oblige. There is a duel with pistols, and th Comte de Martel alone fires his weapon. Capt. Gall explains that he passively allowed al-lowed himself to be shot at because he had written rather a strong, letter to his adversary! That account being settled, he demands another meeting to deal with the original point of honor! Will he fire his pistol then? If so, why didn't he fire In the first duel? Will the Comte de Martel Mar-tel permit himself to be made a target without resistance? If not, 'why not? And will any glimmering of sense ever make it clear to such combatants that "affairs of honor" are affairs of imbecility? London Lon-don Chronicle. |
